DK&S' Kerrigan & Holmes Named Leaders in Law

March 18, 2008

NEW ORLEANS, LA. – Robert E. Kerrigan, Jr. and Duris L. Holmes, partners in the New Orleans office of Deutsch, Kerrigan and Stiles, have been named among New Orleans' top fifty leaders in law by New Orleans CityBusiness for 2008.  According to CityBusiness editors, the honorees were chosen by an elite panel due to their success in law and contributions to the city that have set the pace for the legal community.

Robert E. Kerrigan, Jr. is head of the firm's civil litigation team, and practices in the areas of product defect, toxic exposure, general aviation, securities, toxic waste and environmental litigation, and professional liability defense.  He has tried many high-profile cases, including his most recent victory, a six-week trial where he represented a trucking company sued for injuries from a chemical explosion.  Kerrigan was able to prove his client did not breach any of its duties, and brought back a $0 defense verdict.

"Clients, witnesses and the court all educate you," said Kerrigan. "You must listen to everything that happens while protecting your client's interest.  It is a tough job but very rewarding."

This is the latest in a line of recent honors for Mr. Kerrigan in 2008, including being named by Louisiana Super Lawyers Magazine as among the top five percent of lawyers in the state and being named to the list of The Best Lawyers in America 2008.

Duris L. Holmes practices in the areas of corporate and intellectual property law as well as commercial transactions.  He has extensive experience arbitrating a variety of complex commercial cases that include franchising disputes, antitrust and trade regulations, and securities litigation and shareholders' rights matters.

Holmes is very active in the community.  He is currently president of Advocates for Academic Excellence in Education, the nonprofit that runs Benjamin Franklin High School, and serves on the executive board of the Southeast Louisiana Area Council of the Boy Scouts.

"With the scouts you learn early on that you should put back whatever you get out of it," said Holmes, "and I like to think that is what I am doing with my work at Ben Franklin, returning what was given to me."

Both Kerrigan and Holmes will be profiled in a special insert in the March 24, 2008, edition of New Orleans CityBusiness.
