DK&S Attorney Earns Florida Board Certification in Admiralty and Maritime Law

October 9, 2008

New Orleans, LA – Allen F. Campbell is one of three Florida lawyers whom The Florida Bar recently certified as specialists in admiralty and maritime law.  Certification is the highest level of evaluation by The Florida Bar of the competency and experience of attorneys in areas of law approved for certification by the Supreme Court of Florida.

"Florida's board certification program is one of the leaders in the nation in maintaining the highest standards for excellence and professionalism while adding practice areas for greater public access to legal specialists," said Florida Bar President John G. "Jay" White III.  "The program is predicated on experience and integrity, the foundations that are inseparable from our work as lawyers to advance the administration of justice."

Allen Campbell has extensive experience in both the legal and maritime industries.  He has handled legal cases leading to over 83 reported decisions, including numerous leading decisions as trial attorney or as attorney responsible to shape issues for appeal. He is an Adjunct Professor at Loyola University School of Law and teaches Maritime Personal Injury Law.  He was commissioned in the U.S. Navy (Reserve), served as an officer on tankers and cargo vessels, and trained in all management divisions with Lykes Brothers Steamship Company in Galveston, Texas. He is admitted to practice law in Texas and Louisiana in addition to Florida.

A lawyer who is a member in good standing of The Florida Bar and who meets the standards prescribed by the state's Supreme Court may become board certified in one or more of the 22 certification fields.  Approximately 4,200 of Florida's 80,000 lawyers are board certified.
