The firm’s track record in successfully litigating complex and high-profile cases is reflected in the number of favorable decisions reported in the United States Supreme Court, the U.S. Fifth Circuit Courts, the state courts of Louisiana and Mississippi, and various other courts.
DK&S knows that the ability to maintain our client base and to build that base is dependent upon excellent results as well as the efficient handling of files in a cost-effective manner.
The firm utilizes creative alternatives to traditional litigation procedures. We have successfully used ad hoc judges, arbitrators, and mediators in resolution of matters. We have also promoted the use of mini-trials or selected issue resolution to bring practicality to complicated cases.
Leaders in the Practice of Law
DK&S strives to be an outstanding provider of legal service, and has been recognized as such by independent parties. U.S. News & World Report named us a 2011-2012 Tier 1 law firm in the New Orleans Metropolitan Area for the practice areas of Construction Law, Litigation - Construction, Litigation - Environmental, Personal Injury Litigation - Defendants, and Professional Malpractice Law - Defendants. The firm has been awarded an "AV Preeminent" Peer Review Rating by Martindale-Hubbell.
We seek out the finest among our profession to join our ranks. One of the first women to be admitted to the Louisiana Bar, whose achievements as a trial lawyer were described by a federal court judge as “legendary,” still maintains an office at our firm. We count law review journal editors and bar association leaders in our number, and our partners can be found in the pages of New Orleans CityBusiness’ Leadership in Law list of the top fifty lawyers in New Orleans. In 2012, thirteen of our partners are listed in Woodward/White’s The Best Lawyers in America, and seventeen are recognized in Louisiana Super Lawyers Magazine.
The firm was founded in New Orleans in 1926 by Eberhard Deutsch and Emmett Kerrigan. They were discerning advocates who demanded the utmost clarity and precision of the firm’s lawyers. In 1951, Eberhard Deutsch countered an opposing 1,450-page brief with 11 pages of tightly reasoned argument—and won a landmark catastrophic damages case before the United States Supreme Court. This legend resonates in our contemporary legal practice: we are problem-solvers, applying enduring principles of craft to serve clients effectively and efficiently.
