Summer Clerk Program

Welcome!

Thank you for your interest in Deutsch, Kerrigan & Stiles' law clerk program.  Since our founding in 1926, we have endeavored to provide excellent legal representation to our clients in the most efficient means possible.  Today we continue the tradition established by our founders by interviewing and hiring law students who have demonstrated an ability to excel academically, professionally and socially.

The firm prefers our growth to come through our clerk program and through the normal transitioning of attorneys who, for one reason or another, make a lateral move.  Being a mid-sized firm provides much greater opportunities for our staff and attorneys to get to know each other professionally and on a personal level.  Our summer clerk program will provide you with valuable professional and personal experiences that you will draw on throughout your career.

The Interview Process

Deutsch, Kerrigan & Stiles interviews prospective law clerks on campus at the four law schools in Louisiana and the two law schools in Mississippi.  If you are an out-of-state law student planning a visit to New Orleans and would like to be considered for an interview with us, please send a cover letter with your resume and your most current grade transcript to the Recruiting Partner listed below.

Students selected for interviews meet with two of our attorneys for a twenty minute interview.  This is the only formal interviewing opportunity.  Following campus interviews, selected students will be invited to attend an informal cocktail party at our New Orleans office.  This party gives clerk candidates the opportunity to meet other members of the Deutsch, Kerrigan & Stiles family and to tour our office, as well as allowing us to provide additional information about the firm.

Law Clerk Mentors

As a law clerk with our firm, you will be assigned a mentor who is a practicing attorney. The mentor will be your go-to person who will introduce you to other attorneys in the firm, accompany you to social activities, and ensure your time with us is as meaningful as possible.

Your mentor will review drafts of your work product before a final copy is given to the assigning attorney so that you may benefit from his or her experience. Your mentor will also meet with you on a regular basis to discuss attorney evaluations of your work.

Events

Deutsch, Kerrigan & Stiles wants to get to know its clerks on a personal level. Accordingly, events are scheduled throughout the summer that allow us to socialize outside of the office. Some of the events have included:

Winning TeamSailing Trips
River Boat Cruises
Tubing Trips
Volleyball Tournaments
Rock-N-Bowl Party
Zephyr's Night
Cooking Classes
Happy Hours
Partner Dinners
